What You’ll Learn / Gain
Intro to Progressive Data Ever wondered how campaigns and progressive movement-building organizations get their data? Or what do they do with it once they have it? More importantly, how does all this strengthen our democracy, help achieve progressive electoral victories, and build power for Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, other marginalized groups, and working-class Americans?
Introduction to Progressive Data is a free, 40-hour course covering some of the foundational tools and analytical frameworks in progressive data that will help you answer the questions above and launch a career in the progressive data and technology space.
Students will also receive access to significant one-on-one officer hour time, have the option to complete a final project, receive professional development support, and attend Generation Data career fairs.
Tools covered include NGP VAN, Excel, SQL, Tableau, QGIS, reporting, modeling, cybersecurity, promoting greater racial equity and anti-racism in data and progressive politics, telling stories with data, and more. We cap everything off with a campaign simulation project and progressive data career fair. The time commitment is roughly 40-50 hours.
Intermediate Progressive Data picks up where Introduction to Progressive Data leaves off. This course requires prior knowledge of / experience with SQL. In Intermediate Progressive Data we focus on more SQL, Python, building data pipelines and iterable reporting, statistical thinking, managerial skills, racial equity and anti-racism in data and progressive politics, telling stories with data, and more. We cap everything off with building a data pipeline final project and a progressive data career fair. Participants in the intermediate training currently working in progressive political data will have the option of building a pipeline for their work. The time commitment is roughly 30-40 hours.
